PRE CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
HEINER STECKEL (GERMANY)
Title - Pulsation and Emotion Regulation : Energetic Factors in the Therapeutic Process

Mini curriculum
Heiner Steckel, Dipl.Päd. is an IIBA Faculty Member since 1990, practices as a bioenergetic therapist, coordinates IIBA training , as well as teaching post-graduate workshops in Europe and South America, also teaches bioenergetics in various areas of psycho-social work.
Working with and from the involuntary organismic movements (embedded in a secure enough relational context) is a central theme of his bioenergetic work.

Abstract
Basic bioenergetic experiences (breathing / charge / involuntary movements) and tools (like the “stool” and using the wall, e.g.) will be used to look at the ‘integrative force’ of energy-flow and how organismic impulses can be trusted as a way of psycho-physical re-organization.

Summary
I will discuss the importance of constantly and gradually increasing the organism’s tolerance for energetic charge, providing more and more tolerance for strong feelings to be felt, expressed and contained.

Breathing, contact, voice and grounding are essential elements for emotional expression as well as reestablishing boundaries and containment.

Basic bioenergetic experiences (breathing / charge / involuntary movements) and tools (like the “stool” and using the wall, e.g.) will be used to look at the ‘integrative force’ of energy-flow and how organismic impulses can be trusted as a way of psycho-physical re-organization.

The workshop will be mainly experiential and the principle of ‘Letting the organism find its way from impulse to re-organization’ will be demonstrated by some individual work with volunteers. Group and dyadic work on the same theme will be included to give a chance for every participant to become experientially involved.
I will also make some connections to recent results of neuro-scientific-, trauma- and emotional health- research, which supports both this understanding as well as the importance of the experiential practice.

PRE CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
LEONARD CARLINO, PhD (UNITED STATES)

Title - THE POETRY OF SEEING THE PATIENT PROFOUNDLY: THE KEY TO UNVEILING THE GRACE OF THE SELF

Mini curriculum
Len Carlino, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and International Faculty member. He has taught extensively in Brazil since 1991, as well as Europe and North America. His therapeutic style has been influenced by his 25 year affiliation with Dr. Lowen, as his patient, supervisee and colleague.

Abstract
An experiential and didactic workshop demonstrating that the patient can be seen profoundly when the therapist works on many levels. These levels include:

  • psychodynamics
  • character analysis
  • body and energy dynamics as expressed in character structure
  • transference phenomena
  • therapist’s awareness and use of his/her unique sense of self in the therapeutic relationship.

Seeing the patient profoundly opens the way for grounded regressive work making real growth a possibility and unveiling the Grace of the Self.

Summary
Dr. Alexander Lowen said to me many years ago that the greatest gift a therapist can give a patient is to see them. If the therapist truly sees the patient, then the therapist is able to understand the depth of the patient’s problem. When the patient feels seen they feel supported and connected to the therapist. This establishes a trust level which sets the stage for the hard work ahead for both patient and therapist.

In order to see the patient profoundly, the therapist has to use all of the theoretical, technical and personal skills available to him/her. This includes the therapist’s theoretical knowledge of psychodynamics and character analysis as well as the therapist’s technical skills working with body and energy dynamics expressed in the patient’s character structure. Finally, the therapist has to use his/her personal skills in managing transference phenomena and feel comfortable in using his/her sense of self in the therapeutic relationship.

If the therapist is able to see the patient on all of these levels, then the way is open for grounded, contactful, and intense regressive body work which makes growth a possibility. The patient and the therapist become poets in the process of “unveiling the grace of the self”.

Using Dr. Lowen’s teaching style, the workshop will begin with a didactic session expanding on the above ideas. This will be followed by several individual sessions using volunteers. The poetry for seeing our patients more profoundly will be demonstrated and elaborated upon using the dynamics that arise from the individual sessions. Questions and comments are welcomed.

The Human Questions in the Art of the Resilient Being

GRACE WANDERLEY DE BARROS CORREIA, psychologist, Local Trainer of Brazilian Northeast Association for Bioenergetic Analysis, director of Libertas (Recife), co-author of the book „The Body in Groups: Experiences in Bioenergetic Analysis“ 2007.

JAYME PANERAI ALVES, psychologist, Local Trainer of Brazilian Northeast Association for Bioenergetic Analysis, director of Libertas (Recife), co-author of the book „The Body in Groups: Experiences in Bioenergetic Analysis“ 2007. Author of the publication and DVD „Bioenergetics Exercises for Health“ 2005.

Abstract
The free vibration of the body and the resulting benefit in the promotion  of health has been sought as a social goal. Health focused on the relationship with oneself, with others and with existential issues. The experiential body work will  be developed in the group to allow participants to access resilience as a means to overcome obstacles, difficulties and traumas.

Summary
We propose a visit to our bodies, in group. The caring for aspects involved in the exercise of being a therapist. The look, the listening and the construction of bonds capable of opening the internal to the benefit of many pilgrims in search of themselves. Similar to Nature, being able to respect the rhythms and the phases of this building. A human and relational encounter. To allow people’s potential for resilience to blossom into the capacity to overcome difficulties, traumas and dissolve blocks originated in situations of extreme tension. To recognize pains related to human issues inscribed and expressed in the body, in the way eyes, in the voice.  The subjective body as a path for transformation. Maintaining one’s wholeness, full attention, self-possesion and peace in face of hadships of life, is an Art that needs to be  developed.

Bioenergetic Analysis is present in the movement of life as a human and inspiring approach. Through individual, pairs and group activities we shall reach the integration of the bioenergetic body with the poetic soul of the resilient being.
We dedicate this work to Dr. Lowen who expressed his caring for us Brazilians, as well as recognized and respected the vibrant way our people have to relate to Bioenergetics.

PRE CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
MYRIAN DE CAMPOS (BRAZIL)

BODY, POETRY AND MOVEMENT. THE ART OF HEALING.

Myrian de Campos

International Trainer, IIBAFaculty since 1992. Founder of Sociedade Brasileira de Análise Bioenergética (SOBAB in 1981, the first Bioenergetic society in Brazil. Besides Bioenergetic Analysis, works with Somatic Experience (trauma) and Psychodrama.
Works as IIBA International Trainer in São Paulo, Goiania, Brasilia and  abroad.
Her teachers and therapists, who influenced her work were: Dr. Alexander Lowen and Dr. Frank Hladky.

Abstract
An experiential and didactic workshop. Therapy  when regarded as Art is a form of Poetry where voluntary and involuntary movements arise through exercises and emotional expression, helping to free chronic body tensions, to increase energy flow as well as pulsation of the whole organism.

Summary
According to Dr. Lowen, you are your body. Therefore the main focus of the workshop will be basic Bioenergetic Analysis concepts: breathing, energy, grounding, body reading, character analysis, using your voice, etc.

The objective is to promote and increase vibration (energy), the capacity for self-expression, contact with others and with one’ s own true self. This will take place within a poetic view of therapy as art.

Increased energy charge, pulsation, expression of emotions and feelings will be conducted in accordance with the capacity of each organism aiming at integration and containment of its manifestations, allowing the necessary time for self regulation. Our goal will be to increase aliveness and graciousness, and promote health.

The workshop will be experiential and didactic, with time for questions and answers, theorethically based on bioenergetic concepts. All participants will be able to experience the work through group and individual dynamics.
